I am often asked “why did you want to get involved in Somalia?”

This BBC News documentary that was released yesterday goes a long way to explain why I want more for my people.

I strongly believe that we have come a long way from our challenges, but the solution remains within our grasp to restore Somalia’s place in the global economy with the leadership my nation deserves. You can see the amazement of the journalist after witnessing how much potential we have.

I am very proud of our 3 million strong diaspora, who have been number one donors to our people in Somalia. A good diaspora has pride for the nation that raised them and contributes to our economic development, health and peace.

As JFK proudly said: “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country”.

My vision is neither right nor left. I am a centrist for the voice of my people. My vision is to unite my people under hope, peace and security.

Rajo, Nabad, Amni.

As it says in my book: My Life for Somalia.

Inshallah.
